Wine Industry Zero Waste Collective
Plastic Wrap / Stretch Film

The Problem
The Solution
Pass It On
Stretch wrap. Shrink wrap. Plastic film. Stretch film. Cling wrap! Plastic wrap!! Pallet wrap!!!
Whatever you want to call that clear, plastic, stretchy stuff, our world — and the wine industry — uses and throws out a lot of it.

While plastic is generally recyclable, stretch wrap can't be dumped into the normal blue bins for processing at a typical recycling facility. So in our Zero Waste initiatives, we had to figure out what to do with all this waste...
Enter: our partnership with Trex. Trex is a U.S. manufacturer of wood-alternative outdoor items made of recycled materials — like our shrink wrap!

How it works:
-
Collect all your (clean) plastic stretch wrap. This MUST be clean of dirt, tape, paper, etc. and dry!! Also, biodegradable plastic film cannot be included.
-
Bring it to Wine Service Cooperative at:
-
60 Harlow Lane in Napa
-
1150 Dowdell Lane in St. Helena
-
-
Look for the big bins clearly marked for STRETCH WRAP. Dump it in the bins!
-
Pat yourself on the back.

That's it!

Once the Wine Industry Zero Waste Collective has collected 40,000lbs, we call Trex to come collect, bale and recycle the stretch wrap into decking and outdoor furniture.

Outside of the North Bay of Northern California but still want to get started recycling your stretch film? You've got options:
-
Look up a "NexTrex" drop-off location partner in your area. They are actively working to add more locations to their directory every week.
-
Set up your own commercial plastic wrap recycling program in your wine region. If you need tips or advice, drop us a line!
